Introduction

Metskill is the strategic skills body, for the Engineering and Steel Industry. Our aim is to provide the highest levels of sustainable Improvement to the Industry, through the recruitment and co-ordination of training, of first class apprentices in all fields; this can range from Metal’s Processing to Production work to Electrical and/or Mechanical Maintenance; to Technical Design and Cad-Cam, and to Laboratory/testing work.

Facilities

  • Metskill can offer the best available, we utilise most local colleges, we provide Expert Assessors for all courses, we also offer the Apprentice add-ons to their courses. With the advent of the latest Technology in Machinery and Equipment, this brings along new challenges mainly focused around ICT, the importance of being computer literate is paramount to a lot of Jobs within this industry, so Metskill have in place a dedicated Key-Skills programme to assist apprentices who may need a little help.
  • Metskill run a (Metals Industry Awareness Course) which deals with all aspects of the industry taken into account.

Opportunities

  • There are opportunities for all apprentices to become industry ambassadors, this entails the apprentice visiting schools and events and explaining to other potential apprentices and to parents how they have achieved their own successes.
  • Metskill prides itself on placing the right Apprentice with the right job role, and with the right company; this enables the best chances of a long and successful career within this industry, there are opportunities for travel in some cases, but always the opportunity for improvement and advancement.
  • The chance to sit on a committee that is run and administered by the Apprentices themselves; this has a social side whereby events such as Football tournaments, outings, visits to other Apprentices workplaces, and anything else the committee can see as being useful to their chosen qualification.
  • For the right Apprentice the opportunities are limitless, if suitable and with the right company they can possibly move to Degree level within five years.

Support

  • Metskill provide through the company the apprentice has chosen, a Mentor from day one; he/she will oversee all the apprentices needs regarding training on the job.
  • Metskill provide support throughout the complete training cycle of the apprenticeship, a specific apprentice co-ordinator is allotted from day one and is in place to resolve all/any issues that may arise with training on the job or off the job.
